I live in Silicon Valley. Please click here for my résumé. Here is a picture of me, and here is the Devnagri representation of my name.
I work at Google. Previously, I worked at the IBM Almaden Research Center. Before moving to the Bay Area, I was a Member of Technical Staff in the Information Sciences Research Center at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, where I worked on Operating Systems and Networking.
This is my personal web site, though most of the information here is related to my interests in computer science, computers, and some random hobbies. If you are looking for the accompanying web site of my book Mac OS X Internals, please visit osxbook.com.

Philosophy
Countless hours of our lives (at least my life) have been dedicated to pursuits of the weird kind. It gets weirder when you have f(r)iends like mine.
Fitness
Exercising is very useful, and I believe it alleviates Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and other repetitive strain injuries. Click here for some ramblings on fitness.
Entertainment
Music and Movies ... What would one do without them? There have been times in my life when I have dedicated ludicrous amounts of time to the pursuit of, shall we say, "interests". I like South Park too. Here is an Episode Guide.
Toys
Boys with Toys, as the hackneyed phrase goes ... here are some random gadgets, hobbies and toys that are often a source of meaningful (meaningless) enjoyment to me.
Miscellaneous
I am a member of the ACM and USENIX.
Please feel free to read the legalese.
Art
I have been in love with fine arts for as long as I can remember. I have chronicled some of my endeavors at art, including some examples drawn using a mouse. Among the masters, I particularly admire (meaning I made an organized attempt to study their art at some time) Dali, Van Gogh, Picasso, Rembrandt and Leonardo. By the way, here are some artists of a different kind.
Automotive
I am very interested in all things automotive. So are many of my friends, and some auto-thieves I have crossed paths with in the past: I once had a motorcycle. It was stolen right off my apartment's car port. I also had a nice old car, which was rather unceremoniously wrecked by two of my f(r)iends. I have an Audi TT, which is fun to drive.
Hanoimania
"Just for fun" (sic), I created a large number of implementations of The Towers Of Hanoi puzzle. These differ not only in the language of implementation, but also in concept: for instance, an operating system that does nothing but Hanoi, Hanoi implementations that run on video game hardware and MP3 players, and so on. Details are available on the Hanoimania page.
Operating Systems
I am deeply interested in operating systems, and have had many associations with them. Most of my professional work has focused on Solaris, Linux and FreeBSD, but I have had serious entanglements with many others. Since I began acquiring Apple hardware, I have gotten increasingly involved with Mac OS X, as can be seen on the Mac page.
Programming
Apart from my professional work experience, I spend considerable time on software as a hobby. Click here for some software written by me as an undergraduate student several years ago. My obfuscated code should not be construed as my usual programming practice.
Publications
I like writing, and have attempted to express this interest variously in the past. Here are some of my papers, articles and writings, including some technical FAQ's. In the same context, the skill of typing is also of great use.
